Sgt. Barmak Anvari Honoured with Bruno Gendron Creating Community Award
Sgt. Barmak Anvari was recognized with the Bruno Gendron Creating Community Award at the Thomas G. Flanagan First Responders Awards, celebrating his exceptional commitment to service both in uniform and through years of dedicated volunteer work.
Beyond his duties as a police officer, Sgt. Anvari has built a long-standing record of community involvement rooted in one consistent focus: supporting youth and strengthening community connections. Over many years, he has given countless hours to charitable and youth-focused initiatives across the National Capital Region.
A longtime volunteer with the National Capital Blues Foundation, Sgt. Anvari has played a central role in organizing and supporting the Ottawa Blues Charity Classic. The annual event is held in memory of fallen Ottawa Police Service member Eric Czapnik and raises funds for youth programs and initiatives that directly benefit local communities.
His contributions extend well beyond event planning. Sgt. Anvari has also provided financial management expertise to multiple charitable and community organizations, helping ensure they remain stable, accountable, and able to continue their work supporting those who need it most.
His commitment to youth development reaches far beyond Canada’s borders. While travelling abroad in Africa, he personally collected, transported, and donated soccer equipment, cleats, clothing, and other supplies to support at-risk youth and local community programs—helping create opportunities for recreation, teamwork, and connection.
Today, Sgt. Anvari continues to serve as Vice President of the National Capital Blues Foundation, where he helps guide programs focused on mentorship, opportunity, and youth engagement. He also contributes as one of the managers of the Ottawa Emergency Services League, a charitable soccer league that raises funds for youth initiatives while fostering positive relationships between first responders and the communities they serve.
Through sustained leadership, generosity, and a deep commitment to service, Sgt. Anvari has made a lasting impact on countless young people and families locally and internationally. His work reflects the intent of the Bruno Gendron Creating Community Award: building stronger, more connected communities through action.
