St. Luke’s Park Celebrates Grand Opening of New Basketball Court with Family Fun Fest
On Saturday, August 16, the community came together at St. Luke’s Park for an unforgettable day of basketball, fun, and celebration as the brand-new St. Luke’s basketball court was officially unveiled.
The event kicked off with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, marking the opening of a court that will serve as a hub for youth, families, and basketball enthusiasts for years to come.
The day’s energy only grew from there, with exciting games that filled the court with cheers and friendly rivalry. Matchups included St. Luke Youth vs. Phoenix, BGC Ottawa vs. Ottawa Shayok Next Wave, and the highly anticipated showdown between the OPS Hoopstars and St. Luke’s Adults.
Off the court, families enjoyed a true festival atmosphere. The Yippee volunteers kept kids entertained with face painting, games, and even lending a hand at the BBQ. Christie Lake Kids brought artistry to the park with vibrant face designs, while youth lined up to try the Jump Meter and inflatable games. Free snacks, allergy-friendly options, drinks, and a sizzling barbecue kept everyone fueled, with plenty of giveaways and prizes adding to the excitement.
Thanks to strong community support, more than 100 youth participated, each receiving goodie bags and prizes to celebrate their involvement. Media and community partners also helped spread the word, ensuring the event was not just a local highlight but a story shared across Ottawa.
The Grand Opening of the St. Luke’s Basketball Court was more than a ribbon-cutting—it was proof of what can happen when a community comes together. From players to volunteers, families to sponsors, every contribution made August 16th a day to remember.
