Stolen Bike Recovered Thanks to Alert Ottawa Police Officer
On Sunday, September 14, a sharp eye and quick action from Constable Justin Young of the Ottawa Police Service’s Parliamentary District Team helped return a stolen bicycle worth more than $5,000 to its rightful owner.
While patrolling Bank Street, Cst. Young noticed a high-end bicycle leaning against a building. The bike immediately caught his attention—not only because of its value, but also because a portion of a lock was still attached, suggesting it may have been tampered with.
Trusting his instincts, Cst. Young ran the serial number and, with the assistance of an OPS report analyst, confirmed that the bicycle had been reported stolen during a break-and-enter in August.
Acting quickly, he secured the bike to his vehicle’s rack and drove it straight to the surprised and grateful owner’s home.
Thanks to Cst. Young’s diligence, teamwork with OPS analysts, and commitment to community safety, a resident was reunited with their property and reminded that stolen goods can indeed make their way back home.
