FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Friday, January 30, 2026   9:40 a.m.

(Ottawa) — The Ottawa Police Service is now accepting applications for the 2026 Thomas G. Flanagan S.C. Scholarship Award.

Established in 1993 in memory of former Ottawa Police Chief Thomas G. Flanagan (1989-1993), this annual $2,000 scholarship supports Indigenous and racialized women pursuing post-secondary education with aspirations of a career in policing.

“This scholarship represents more than financial support—it’s a commitment to creating a police service that reflects the diversity of the community we serve,” said Acting Staff Sgt. Lila Shibley from the Ottawa Police Recruiting Team. “We’re proud to empower Indigenous and racialized women to pursue their ambitions in policing and to bring their voices and perspectives into our service.”

Applications will be accepted until February 28th, 2026. For more information about the 2026 Thomas G. Flanagan S.C. Scholarship, visit ottawapolice.ca.
