Collaborative approach addresses ongoing safety concerns in Centretown

Ottawa — The Ottawa Police Service (OPS), in collaboration with community partners, has concluded a proactive policing engagement in Centretown to enhance safety and restore stability along the Bank Street corridor between Catherine Street and Gladstone Avenue, in response to ongoing community concerns about public safety, disorder, and criminal activity.
Members of Central D Platoon and the Centretown Neighbourhood Resource Team (NRT) led a coordinated enforcement and outreach initiative, working closely with the Market NRT, OPS Community Outreach Response and Engagement (CORE), and the Probation Office. The operation focused on addressing repeated disruptions involving a small group of individuals, supporting vulnerable individuals, and enhancing safety for residents, businesses, and visitors in the area.
As a result of this focused initiative, 10 individuals were identified, resulting in a total of 14 Criminal Code charges and 2 Provincial Offences Act charges. The operation concluded without incident.
Officers conducted proactive patrols, engaged directly with community members, and took targeted enforcement action where required. The initiative also connected individuals to support services through partner agencies, reinforcing the OPS commitment to a balanced approach that combines enforcement with social supports.
The Ottawa Police Service will continue monitoring the Bank Street corridor and will maintain an enhanced presence as needed to support long-term community safety and wellbeing.
