East District traffic blitz results in 92 Charges, impaired driving arrest and stunt driving offences
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Monday, November 2, 2026 6:15 p.m.
Ottawa — Ghosts and goblins weren't the only things roaming Ottawa's roads this Halloween weekend.
Members of the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) East District Traffic Team conducted a weekend enforcement blitz, focusing on impaired driving, speeding and other dangerous driving behaviours to help keep roads safe for trick-or-treaters and all road users.
On Saturday and Sunday (October 31–November 1), officers conducted 89 mandatory alcohol screening tests, resulting in one warn-range licence suspension and two novice drivers facing alcohol-related charges.
Among the incidents:
· A 19-year-old novice driver was charged with driving with a blood alcohol concentration above zero and received a seven-day licence suspension.
· A G2 driver was charged with impaired operation and violating novice driver alcohol restrictions after registering a blood alcohol concentration nearly 1.5 times the legal limit. The driver received an immediate 90-day licence suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
Officers also issued 92 Highway Traffic Act-related charges, including two stunt driving offences:
· Blackburn Hamlet Bypass: A driver was charged with stunt driving and speeding after being caught travelling 157 km/h.
· Walkley Road: A novice driver was charged with stunt driving after travelling 93 km/h in a posted 50 km/h Community Safety Zone. The driver was also charged with failing to stop for police and driving without a licence.
Both drivers received immediate 30-day licence suspensions, and their vehicles were impounded for 14 days.
A reminder to drivers: Under Canada's mandatory alcohol screening laws, police officers may demand a roadside breath sample from a lawfully stopped driver without first suspecting alcohol consumption, provided they have an approved screening device available. Refusing or failing to comply with a lawful demand can result in criminal charges.
As the festive season approaches, the OPS is reminding everyone that impaired and dangerous driving are preventable.
Make the right choice. Slow down, drive responsibly and never drive impaired.
