East District Traffic Officer lays stunt driving charges in Community Safety Zone
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Tuesday, September 1, 2026 1:05 p.m.
(Ottawa)—On August 31, 2026, an East District Traffic Officer conducting proactive enforcement on Trim Road observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed in a Community Safety Zone.
RADAR recorded the vehicle travelling at 135 km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone — 75 km/h over the speed limit.
A 20-year-old man was charged with:
- Stunt driving / excessive speeding
- Operating a motor vehicle without insurance
- Fail to apply for a permit upon becoming an owner
- Plate not plainly visible
The driver's licence was immediately suspended for 30 days, and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
If convicted of stunt driving, the driver faces a $2,000 to $10,000 fine, six demerit points and a licence suspension of at least one year. Operating a motor vehicle without insurance carries a minimum $5,000 fine.
