Happy National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week

They are the calm in the chaos.
The steady voice on the other end of the line.
The first point of contact on someone's worst day.

Before officers arrive, before lights and sirens fill the streets, there is a telecommunicator listening, guiding, reassuring, and dispatching help when it’s needed most. They are the guardians of our frontline, working tirelessly behind the scenes to keep our community safe.

This week is filled with well-deserved appreciation, recognition, and a bit of fun shared with our partners across the city. For the past four years, that spirit of teamwork has extended into a friendly challenge between Ottawa Police Service Communications, Ottawa Fire Services, and Ottawa Paramedics — coming together to raise funds for meaningful community causes.

From supporting the Ottawa Food Bank, the Ottawa Humane Society, and CHEO, this initiative has made a real difference year after year.

This year we are proud to support the Ottawa First Responders Foundation. It’s a cause that reflects the very heart of what our telecommunicators do every day: showing up for those who need it most.

The challenge runs until the end of Telecommunicator Week on April 18. While there may be a winner, the true impact is felt across the community.
