Intimate Partner Violence reports in Ottawa show a decrease

(Ottawa) – As part of our ongoing commitment to raising awareness about Violence Against Women and promoting transparency, the OPS continues to publicly report on Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) statistics. In January 2025, we announced the introduction of annual and semi-annual public reporting to provide the community with timely information on IPV trends in Ottawa and to enhance accountability.
This report continues that commitment by sharing the latest available IPV statistics from the first half of 2026.
The Ottawa Police Service experienced a 5% decrease in reports in the first six months of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025. There were 3775 intimate partner-related incidents reported in the first six months of 2026 compared to 3977 reports in the same period of 2025.
OPS crime data is related to all IPV incidents, and as such, victims, both male and female, are represented here.
Most prevalent violations in the first half of 2026 are:
- Assault-Partner
- Breaches (all)
- Harass Communication-Partner
- Assault w/ Weapon or CBH Level 2
- Sexual Assault-Partner
Demographics per age group:
- 8.9% were under 19 yrs old
- 27.6% were between the ages of 20 and 29
- 44% were between the ages of 30 and 44
- 14.9% were between the ages of 45 and 59
- 4.6% were over the age of 60
Demographics per gender:
- 82.3% identified as female
- 17.4% identified as male
