Man charged following downtown Ottawa retail robbery

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Wednesday, July 29, 2026    5:35 p.m.

(Ottawa) – The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) Robbery Unit has charged one man following a retail robbery in downtown Ottawa.

On July 28, 2026, at approximately 7:29 a.m., a lone man entered a convenience store in the 100 block of Rideau Street. The man demanded merchandise and, when his demands were refused, assaulted a staff member before leaving the store with unpaid items.

Patrol officers located the suspect nearby and arrested him without incident.

David Charette, 34, has been charged with:

  • Robbery
  • Breach of Probation
  • Uttering Threats

He was held in custody and was scheduled to appear in court this morning.
