Recruit Spotlight: Special Constable Mackenzie Lawson
I grew up in Montreal, Quebec, where I lived until the age of 13, before moving to Melbourne, Australia for two years.
After returning to Montreal for several more years, I relocated to Ottawa to complete my undergraduate degree in Biomedical Science.
Driven by a strong passion for forensic science, I went on to earn a Master’s degree in Forensic Medicine from the University of Florida. Prior to joining the Ottawa Police Service, I worked in the private sector in Ottawa as a forensic investigator specializing in fire and explosives.
From a young age, I knew I wanted a hands-on career that contributed to the greater good. In a Grade 7 careers class, I discovered the field of forensic science and have been committed to pursuing it ever since. I have always viewed forensics as a way to apply science in the pursuit of justice and to help provide closure for victims’ families.
When I learned that the Ottawa Police Service offered the role of Forensic Identification Technician with the rank of Special Constable, I knew it was the perfect opportunity to give back to the Ottawa community.
