FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Wednesday, October 21, 2026       3:25 p.m.

Ottawa — The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) South District Traffic Team conducted a three-day traffic enforcement blitz over October 15-17, targeting unsafe driving behaviours and responding to concerns raised by residents.

Enforcement efforts focused on areas where police have received ongoing traffic complaints, with particular attention to east-west corridors where recent fatal collisions have occurred.

Over the three-day operation, officers issued 55 Provincial Offence Notices (PONs) and 16 Part III summonses requiring court appearances.

Enforcement highlights include:

  • Two drivers had their licences suspended for stunt driving
  • Three vehicles were impounded
  • Five suspended drivers were removed from the road
  • Eight stop sign violations
  • Eight speeding offences
  • Three distracted driving offences
  • Two drivers operating vehicles without insurance
  • One driver failing to stop for a pedestrian
  • Two tow trucks stopped within 200 metres of a collision scene
  • Two commercial vehicle safety inspections

Additional offences included unaccompanied G1 driving, improper use of licence plates, driving in a bus lane and vehicle equipment violations.

Of particular concern, officers stopped a driver for the second time in just six weeks for driving while suspended and without insurance. The driver now faces approximately $12,000 in potential fines.

The OPS remains committed to conducting proactive traffic enforcement across the city, with a continued focus on high-risk driving behaviours and locations identified through community concerns.

Road safety is everyone's responsibility.
