Together Against Hate Ottawa Forum: Community Learning, Dialogue and Action

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Tuesday, May 26, 2026 11:00 a.m.

(Ottawa) – The Ottawa Police Service will host the Together Against Hate Ottawa Forum on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at the Saint Elias Banquet Centre, 750 Ridgewood Drive, Ottawa.

This one-day forum will bring together community members, youth, service providers, legal experts, educators, and institutional partners to explore how hate impacts communities and how individuals and organizations can work together to prevent, recognize, report, and respond to hate in all its forms.

Focused on learning and dialogue, the forum is not centred on any single community, religion, or form of hate. Instead, it brings together diverse expert voices and lived perspectives to foster understanding, strengthen partnerships, and equip participants with practical knowledge and tools.

Throughout the day, speakers and panelists will discuss:

  • Hate crimes and barriers to reporting
  • Online hate and youth experiences
  • Prevention and early intervention
  • Community trust, belonging, and safety
  • Building stronger partnerships and coordinated responses

Featured speakers and panelists include:

  • Mark Sutcliffe, Mayor of Ottawa
  • Salim Fakirani, Chair, Ottawa Police Service Board
  • Paul Burnett, Deputy Chief, Ottawa Police Service
  • Mohammed Hashim, President & CEO, Canadian Race Relations Foundation
  • Moiz Karimjee, Acting Deputy Crown Attorney
  • Kyrstin Dumont, Indigenous Perspectives: Moving Away From Hate and Towards Kinship
