Traffic stop leads to recovery of loaded handgun

Ottawa — The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) Guns and Gangs Unit is investigating after officers recovered a loaded handgun during a traffic stop in the city’s south end.

On Wednesday, September 30, at approximately 11:20 p.m., South Neighbourhood Resource Team officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of McCarthy Road and Paul Anka Drive.

During the stop, officers began a cannabis-related investigation. An adult male fled the scene and was later located and arrested. A youth also attempted to flee and resisted arrest. During the youth’s arrest, officers located a loaded handgun in the youth’s jacket pocket.

An additional adult male and adult female were arrested. The woman was later released without charges.

The investigation continues.
