Update: Charges laid following suspicious person investigation at University of Ottawa

Ottawa — The Ottawa Police Service has laid charges in connection with a suspicious person investigation on the campus of the University of Ottawa on April 10, 2026.

As previously reported, officers responded to the area of Nicholas Street and Laurier Avenue following reports of a suspicious person.

One individual was taken into custody.

No injuries were reported, and there was no ongoing threat to public safety.

Following the investigation, the suspect—who was in possession of a replica firearm—has been charged with:

Possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace
Mischief – preventing the lawful enjoyment of property

The accused is scheduled to appear in court today.

The investigation remains ongoing.

One arrested following suspicious person investigation at University of Ottawa

(Ottawa)— One person has been arrested following an investigation into a suspicious person incident at uOttawa today.

Ottawa Police responded to the University of Ottawa campus today at approximately 4:20 p.m. following reports of a suspicious person in the area.

Following an investigation and search a man was arrested on Waller St. just before 7 p.m.

There are no injuries to report and there is no ongoing threat to public safety.

The investigation remains ongoing.

UOttawa has lifted its lockdown, and the incident is being cleared.

Ottawa Police thank members of the university community and the public for their cooperation and patience.
