Community Incident Report

From graffiti to minor assaults, these incidents are often underreported, resulting in a lack of awareness among community members. The Community Incident Report aims to bridge that gap by providing timely, relevant updates directly to residents. This is not a complete list of incidents in the Ottawa area as various criteria and jurisdictions may play a factor.

The report highlights actions taken by the Ottawa Police Service, such as investigating assaults, coordinating with partners to remove hateful graffiti in a timely manner, and engaging relevant units to address hate-motivated incidents, and laying charges where applicable.

Ottawa Police Hate and Bias Crime Unit is investigating an incident of an assault on a woman wearing a hijab, who was approached by a man shouting hate slurs.

The incident occurred at a gas station on Carling Avenue yesterday morning.

The investigation is ongoing.

The Ottawa Police take these matters seriously. Support services are in place, and the Diversity and Resource Relations Unit is in contact with the community to provide assistance. Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact the police at 613-236-1222, ext. 5015.

Update: A 32-year-old man charged with hate-motivated offences - Ottawa Police Service

2025-12-02

On December 2, at approximately 3:15 p.m., officers responded to reports of an assault. Officers located three youths reportedly directing slurs at the victims. The verbal harassment escalated into a physical assault, during which two conducted energy weapons were produced but not deployed.

An independent witness who intervened to help the victims was also threatened with a conducted energy weapon by one of the youths.

All three youths were arrested and face multiple charges related to threats, assault, and weapons. They cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) Hate and Bias Crime Unit is investigating a hate-motivated incident that occurred on an OC Transpo bus on April 26, 2026.

At approximately 10:35 a.m., a woman boarded a bus at the OC Transpo Station located at 1360 Bank Street and began verbally confronting two passengers, uttering racial slurs and making threats. When another passenger intervened, he was assaulted.

OC Transpo Special Constables attended and arrested the suspect, who was then held for the OPS.

The incident resulted in a 19-year-old Ottawa woman in relation to this incident.
