Assault investigation: police seeking public help in identifying suspects

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Friday, August 8, 2026     2:00 p.m.

(Ottawa) – The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying three individuals in connection with an assault that occurred on Friday, July 24, 2026, at approximately 8:45 p.m., in the area of George Street and Cumberland Street.

Investigators have identified one individual as the suspect in the assault and are seeking to identify two other individuals who may have information relevant to the investigation.

The suspect is known to frequent the area of George Street and Cumberland Street. He is described as a black man with black hair, which appears to be styled in locks and pulled back in a ponytail.

At the time of the incident, the suspect was wearing:

• A black baseball hat worn backwards
• Black sunglasses with gold detailing on the right side
• A black T-shirt with white graphics or wording on the front and right shoulder
• Blue jean shorts
• White socks
• Black shoes

The two other individuals investigators are seeking to identify are described as:

Subject 1: a white woman with a medium build. At the time of the incident, she was wearing a black off-the-shoulder shirt with a graphic on the front, black leggings, and white shoes. She was carrying a black tote bag over her right shoulder.

Subject 2: a black man with a heavy build and short hair, styled in locks. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a white and black shirt, blue jeans, and black shoes.
