Commercial vehicle safety blitz removes 19 trucks from Ottawa roads

Ottawa — On September 15, a joint commercial vehicle safety blitz was conducted by the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) and the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) in the city’s south end. The blitz resulted in 19 trucks being removed from the road and 30 charges being laid.
In total, 71 trucks were checked. Of those, 19 were taken out of service for safety-related issues, and one trailer plate was removed due to unfit status.
Trucks were removed from the road for concerns including defective brakes, improper driver’s licences, improper tires, improper safety chains, inoperative directional or brake lamps, damaged bearings, load security issues, and damaged suspension, including a cracked leaf spring.
Charges were laid for offences related to Commercial Vehicle Operator’s Registration (CVOR), permits, missing daily trip inspection reports, improper driver’s licences, load security, overweight vehicles, major defects, and missing annual inspection certificates.
Safe commercial vehicles, properly licensed drivers, and secure loads are essential to road safety. The MTO and OPS will continue to conduct targeted enforcement initiatives to help keep Ottawa’s roads safe.
