Kanata car meet dispersed; falsely advertised as authorized

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Wednesday, May 27, 2026 11:15 a.m.

(Ottawa) — The Ottawa Police Service conducted targeted traffic enforcement last weekend in response to an advertised car meet in Kanata that was falsely promoted as authorized.

Approximately 75 vehicles attended the gathering, which had been promoted on social media. Officers confirmed with property representatives that the event was not authorized and advised participants they were required to leave. The parking lot was cleared without incident, and all attendees were cooperative.

As vehicles dispersed, officers monitored nearby roads and other potential gathering locations. No significant incidents or reports of street racing were received.

Officers issued several Provincial Offence Notices related to vehicle equipment and unnecessary noise

In a separate incident later that evening, a 23-year-old motorcyclist was charged with stunt driving and speeding after being spotted travelling 155 km/h in a 60 km/h zone near Merivale Road and Capilano Drive after leaving a nearby motorcycle meet. The motorcycle was impounded for 14 days, and the driver’s licence was suspended for 30 days.

The OPS continues to work with property owners and community partners to address unlawful vehicle gatherings and dangerous driving.

Reminder

Officers may issue trespass notices and make arrests for individuals who are on, or return to, private property without authorization.

Those who organize or attend unauthorized car meets may also be subject to enforcement under municipal by-laws, the Highway Traffic Act, and the Criminal Code.

Police are authorized to enforce offences such as stunt driving, careless driving, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle on private property.
