Man arrested following assault on Wellington Street

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Monday, August 17,  2026   2:05 p.m.

Ottawa - The Ottawa Police Service has arrested a man following an assault that occurred on Saturday, August 15, 2026, shortly after 4 p.m., on Wellington Street near Sussex Drive.

While playing bagpipes on the sidewalk, the victim was approached by an unknown male and, without provocation, assaulted with an edged weapon. The suspect left the area but was quickly located and arrested by officers nearby.

The victim sustained minor injuries to his hand and was treated at the scene by paramedics.

25-year-old Jean DORESTANT has been arrested and charged with:

·         Assault with a Weapon

·         Assault Cause Bodily Harm

·         Possess Weapon Dangerous

·         Obstruct/Resist Arrest

·         Breach of Probation X2

The investigation is ongoing.
