Numerous charges laid during high-risk driving enforcement; three vehicles impounded

(Ottawa) – Ottawa Police Service (OPS) Traffic enforcement officers monitored several areas across the city on July 3 as part of ongoing efforts to address unauthorized vehicle gatherings, stunt driving and other high-risk driving behaviours.
Traffic officers proactively attended known gathering locations across the West, South and East Districts.
These patrols resulted in 26 charges, including three stunt driving charges.
Charges included:
- Speeding: 8
- Disobey sign: 2
- Driving while using a hand-held communication device: 2
- Red light – fail to stop: 1
- Drive no licence: 1
- Driver not properly wearing seatbelt: 1
- Plate not plainly visible: 1
- Unnecessary noise: 1
- Document-related charges: 3
Three drivers were charged with stunt driving and speeding, including:
- A 24-year-old man stopped on Riverside Drive at Old Riverside Drive travelling 122 km/h in a 60 km/h zone.
- A 23-year-old man stopped on Riverside Drive at Old Riverside Drive travelling 108 km/h in a 60 km/h zone. This is the second time in five months he has been charged with stunt driving.
- A 21-year-old man stopped on Highway 416 South at Fallowfield Road travelling 176 km/h in a 100 km/h zone. The vehicle belonged to a passenger in the vehicle.
All three drivers have their licences suspended for 30 days, and their vehicles are impounded for 14 days. They face fines of $2000 to $10,000, a further 1–3-year licence suspension, and a possible 6 months in jail, upon conviction.
Officers monitored several locations across the city, as well as roads known for street racing activity.
The OPS continues to remind drivers that stunt driving, excessive speed, racing and dangerous driving behaviours put everyone at risk.
Enforcement will continue throughout the summer.
