#ResidentsMatter Enforcement targets speeding and aggressive driving

(Ottawa) – Ottawa Police Service (OPS) Traffic enforcement officers (Road Safety Unit, West District Traffic, and the Impound Vehicle Section) conducted #ResidentsMatter traffic enforcement across the city targeting speed, street racing, and aggressive driving.
During the evenings of Friday, July 31 and Saturday, August 1, officers issued 11 speeding tickets, along with a number of additional Provincial Offences Act charges related to driving behaviour, vehicle equipment, and documentation.
Two drivers had their licences suspended for seven days for blowing a "Warn" on an Approved Alcohol Screening Device.
Four drivers were charged with stunt driving and speeding, including:
- A 26-year-old man on Highway 417 Eastbound at Holly Acres Road travelling 163 km/h in a 100 km/h zone.
- A 23-year-old man, with a G2 licence, on Strandherd Drive at Dealership Drive travelling 117 km/h in a 70 km/h zone.
- An 18-year-old man, and a 19-year-old man, both with G2 licences, were observed racing on Strandherd Drive at Beatrice Drive travelling 127 km/h in a 70 km/h zone. They were also charged with Racing a Motor Vehicle.
All four drivers had their licences suspended for 30 days, and their vehicles were impounded for 14 days.
They face fines of $2000 to $10,000, a further one – to three – year driver’s licence suspension, and a possible six months in jail, upon conviction.
Residents are encouraged to report incidents of street racing and other aggressive driving to police.
The Ottawa Police Service in partnership with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), will continue to monitor roads and highways throughout the year targeting dangerous and aggressive driving.
