#ResidentsMatter traffic enforcement results in Orleans; 31 charges laid

Ottawa — Officers from the Road Safety Unit and the East District Traffic Unit conducted targeted traffic enforcement in Orleans, focusing on aggressive driving, excessive speeding and nuisance driving following ongoing concerns from residents.

On the evening of Thursday, October 8, Enforcement was conducted throughout the area, including at Fallingbrook Mall on Tenth Line Road, where a weekly vehicle gathering has been associated with reports of dangerous driving in recent weeks. Approximately 20 vehicles attended Thursday evening, and no incidents were reported on the property.

During the operation, officers laid 27 Provincial Offence Notices and four Part III court summonses, for a total of 31 charges.

Notable incidents included:

  • Stunt driving: An 18-year-old G2 driver was stopped at Tenth Line Road and Amiens Street after allegedly travelling 127 km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone. The driver was charged with stunt driving, speeding and failing to surrender an insurance card. Their licence was suspended for 30 days, and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
  • Driving while suspended: A 50-year-old driver was stopped at Innes Road and Tenth Line Road following an automated licence plate reader alert. The driver was charged with driving while under suspension due to unpaid fines.

Other offences included speeding, unnecessary noise, using a hand-held communication device while driving, and various vehicle documentation and equipment violations.

The Ottawa Police Service will continue targeted traffic enforcement in response to community concerns, with a focus on promoting road safety and addressing dangerous and disruptive driving behaviours.
