South District retail theft operation results in seven arrests

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Thursday, September 10, 2026 11:15 a.m.  

(Ottawa) -  On September 4, 2026, the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) conducted a targeted retail theft enforcement operation in the Chapman Mills area, resulting in seven arrests, four Criminal Code charges and 20 Provincial Offence Notices. 

 The blitz operation brought together OPS frontline and community officers, retail management and loss prevention teams, and OC Transpo Special Constables.  

 The operation resulted in: 

• 7 arrests and 7 detentions
• 4 Criminal Code charges, including one Theft Under $5,000 and three Breach of Probation charges
• 20 Provincial Offence Notices, including trespass and traffic offences
• 12 traffic warnings
• 6 Youth Criminal Justice Act warnings
• 1 cannabis seizure and 1 suspected controlled substance seizure 

Thirteen of the individuals encountered were youth, reflecting a trend of youth-related offences identified in the area. 

 A repeat offender was also located and arrested with the assistance of loss prevention personnel. The individual faces four Criminal Code charges.  

 The results demonstrate the value of strong community partnerships, real-time information sharing and coordinated enforcement in addressing retail theft and other public safety concerns.
