Targeted traffic enforcement results in 92 charges

Ottawa — Ottawa Police Service (OPS) Traffic officers laid 92 charges over two days of targeted enforcement on August 28 and 29, as officers monitored vehicle gatherings, organized automotive events and high-risk driving across the city.
On Friday and Saturday evenings, officers from the Road Safety Unit, District Traffic and Impounded Vehicle Units conducted enforcement throughout Ottawa while monitoring known gathering locations.
Friday’s enforcement resulted in 18 Provincial Offence Notices and three Part III court summonses, for a total of 21 charges.
Among the incidents, a 32-year-old driver was observed travelling 143 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone on Highway 417 near Parkdale Avenue. The driver was charged with stunt driving and speeding. Their driver’s licence was suspended for 30 days and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
A 19-year-old driver was also stopped near Strandherd Drive and Greenbank Road for an improper muffler and issued a court summons. The driver had been charged with the same offence within the previous seven days.
Saturday’s proactive enforcement resulted in 64 Provincial Offence Notices and seven Part III court charges, for a total of 71 charges.
Two drivers were charged with stunt driving Saturday.
- At Fisher Avenue and Dynes Road, a 28-year-old driver was observed travelling 102 km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone. The driver was charged with stunt driving and speeding. Their driver’s licence was suspended for 30 days and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
- At Baseline Road and Clyde Avenue, a vehicle was observed travelling 133 km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone. The vehicle was involved in a minor collision at an intersection and continued from the scene. The driver was charged with stunt driving, speeding, failing to stop at a red light and failing to remain at the scene of a collision. Their driver’s licence was suspended for 30 days and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
Another driver was stopped near Prince of Wales Drive and Normandy Crescent after an Automated Licence Plate Recognition alert indicated the registered owner was suspended. The 40-year-old driver was charged with driving while under suspension and failing to stop at a red light.
Across both days, charges included speeding, vehicle equipment and muffler offences, licence and permit violations, red-light and stop-sign offences, distracted driving and other Highway Traffic Act offences.
In total, officers laid:
- 82 Provincial Offence Notices
- 10 Part III court charges
- 92 charges overall
Three drivers were charged with stunt driving over the two-day enforcement period.
OPS continues to work with event organizers, community members and policing partners to support safe automotive events while targeting stunt driving, street racing and other high-risk driving behaviours that threaten public safety.
