Tip from vehicle GPS company results in 48 criminal charges

(Ottawa) — The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) has charged four individuals with 48 vehicle theft-related offences following a coordinated investigation between multiple OPS teams.
On February 25, the OPS was notified by a GPS tracking company that a stolen Toyota SUV had been located in the 400 block of Brittany Drive.
Members of the East Neighbourhood Resource Team, K9 Unit, and frontline patrol officers attended the area and located four individuals preparing the vehicle for transportation. After a brief foot pursuit and K9 track, three adult men and one youth were arrested.
A subsequent investigation by the East Criminal Investigations Unit resulted in a total of 48 criminal charges.
Three of the accused were currently out on bail for auto theft-related offences in multiple jurisdictions across Ontario and Quebec. One of the accused was scheduled to be sentenced in court for auto theft in another jurisdiction on the same day as this arrest.
